One of the best shepherd’s pie recipes from the CAMPBELL'S® cookbook. This shepherd’s pie recipe is a casserole consisting of ground lamb / beef topped with mashed potatoes, frozen peas, carrot, and many other veggies seasoned with ground pepper - the perfect dish for Thanksgiving dinner or any other meal.

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare a 9 x 9-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Place the potatoes in a large pot of boiling water, cook until potatoes are fork tender, 10-12 minutes.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the onions and cook for 5 minutes, then add the ground beef, stirring constantly and breaking apart into small pieces until no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Add the garlic, stir to combine, cook for 1 minute. Add 1 carton of CAMPBELL'S® Rich & Thick Stock, and frozen vegetables, stir well, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt to taste. Turn off heat, set aside covered.
  5. Drain potatoes and return to pot and mash, adding butter, cream, garlic powder and salt/pepper.
  6. Pour the meat mixture into prepared baking dish, spread evenly. Spoon the mashed potatoes on top of the meat evenly then sprinkle with parmesan cheese to make it cheesy and flavourful. Place on a rimmed baking sheet uncovered for 25-30 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Recipe Tips

  • Like it spicy? Turn up the heat with a few dashes of tabasco or your favourite hot sauce to the filling!
  • To save time on a weeknight meal this recipe can be prepared in advance. Prep the meat mixture and potatoes ahead, when ready to bake add them to the casserole dish and bake for 30-35 minutes.
